On Class of 2018 Recognition Day in Elmira's home finale against St. John Fisher on Saturday, Donte Donegal '18 struck for his team-leading third goal of the 2017 campaign, as the men's soccer team played the Cardinals to a 1-1 double-overtime draw. The fourth-year forward tallied the Soaring Eagles' lone goal of the afternoon in the 28th minute following a give-and-go with teammate Michael Courtney '21, who earned an assist on the play.
The goal was the third of Donegal's senior season and the 11th of his collegiate career. With a team-high seven points thus far this season, the East Hampton, New York, native has amassed 25 in his four years at EC.
By helping the Soaring Eagles draw the reigning E8 champs, Donegal has the Soaring Eagles in the hunt for a postseason berth. A victory over Sage in the regular-season finale on October 27 and some help around the Empire 8 would allow Elmira secure the fourth and final seed in the E8 Tournament.
Before that contest, however, the EC men will head to King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, for the last non-conference bout of the 2017 season. The Soaring Eagles and Monarchs will kick off on Wednesday, October 25, at 7:00 p.m.
