Rachel Grampp '18 and the No. 3/3-ranked Soaring Eagles concluded the 2017-18 regular season on top of the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) with a pair of victories against Neumann University over the weekend. By virtue of beating the Knights in a 4-0 shutout on Friday night and a 7-1 lopsided triumph on Saturday, Elmira went unbeaten in league play at 15-0-1.
The Williamsville, New York, native paced the Purple and Gold with four points and was tied for the team lead with three assists in the two-game series at the Murray Athletic Center. She dished out an assist on the game's first goal on Friday, before tying her career-high with three points (1g-2a) on Saturday. Grampp netted the first goal less than three minutes into the opening period and dished out helpers on a pair of third-period tallies. Not only did the fourth-year blueliner contribute on offense, but she helped the penalty-kill unit hold the Knights scoreless on four power plays over the weekend.
As a senior, Grampp has posted career-highs across the board in goals (4), assists (10), and points (14). Elmira won all nine games in which she logged a point, and the Soaring Eagles concluded the regular season ranked second in the nation in scoring defense, allowing a mere 1.04 goals per game to the opposition.
Grampp and the No. 3/3 EC women will enjoy a two-week break, before returning to action on Saturday, March 3, in the semifinal round of the inaugural UCHC Tournament. As the top-seeded team in the league, the Soaring Eagles will enjoy a first-round bye and find out who they'll face following the tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, February 24.
