Sarah Hughson '18 was incredible in a pair of postseason victories at the Murray Athletic Center, as she led the top-seeded Soaring Eagles to the inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) championship with a team-high six points (4g-2a). The East Haddam, Connecticut, native began the weekend with one goal and one assist in EC’s 7-1 triumph over the No.4 seed Utica College in the UCHC semifinals on Saturday. That was just the tip of the iceberg, as Hughson exploded for three goals and one assist in a 5-0 victory over third-seeded Stevenson University in the tournament title game. The hat trick is the third of her career, all of which have come this season.Â
On the year, Hughson is tied for seventh in the country with a career-best 46 points on 26 goals and 20 assists, the former of which ranks fifth in the nation. The fourth-year forward moved into fifth-place in single-season program history in goals and ninth-place in points. She has scored a goal in six consecutive games and has logged at least one point in seven straight. For her outstanding performance over the weekend, Hughson - the conference Player of the Year - was crowned the UCHC Tournament MVP.Â
Hughson will guide the No. 3/3-ranked Soaring Eagles into the quarterfinals of the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championships to face No. 6/5 Adrian College on Saturday, March 10, at the Murray Athletic Center.Â
