Conor Bawiec '18 guided the Soaring Eagles to their first win of the 2018 campaign with a dominant pitching performance against the Pioneers of Utica College on Friday afternoon. The right-handed hurler went 8.0 innings in his lone start of the week and allowed two runs, zero earned, while striking out five batters along the way. In addition to his pitching, Bawiec had a strong performance at the plate over the five games last week. The Lebanon, Pennsylvania, native tallied four hits with a triple, four runs scored and two RBIs. He logged a hit in each of the three bouts against the Pioneers.
For the season, Bawiec owns a 1-2 record on the mound with team highs in strikeouts (26) and innings pitched (25.0). At the plate, he maintains a .259 batting average with one triple and two doubles. The 6-foot-4-inch utility man is second on Elmira with 10 runs scored and third with six RBIs.
Bawiec and the rest of the Soaring Eagles are scheduled to hit the diamond on Wednesday, April 4, when they host the Stevens Institute of Technology for an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader. The opening contest is slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
