Stephen Gervase '20 went 3-1 this weekend in a pair of matches for the Purple and Gold, playing a spot up at No. 2 singles. The product of Lebanon, Connecticut, began with a 1-1 showing against the Pennsylvania College of Technology on Friday. Gervase picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles against the Wildcats after falling at No. 1 doubles in a tightly-contested 8-6 contest. Patrick Tracey '18 at No. 1 doubles, Gervase cruised to an 8-0 triumph. He closed out Elmira's first win of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Utica's Ben Gilroy at No. 2 singles.
Coming off of a freshman campaign where he won 14 times, Gervase's strong performance this past weekend has given him a 4-4 overall record as a sophomore. Although he had not played above No. 4 singles before this season, Gervase has welcomed his rise in the order with a 2-0 record at the No. 2 spot.
The Elmira men will look to build off their first win of the season on Saturday, April 7, when they head to Lantham, New York, to battle The Sage Colleges. The event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the indoor Tri-City Tennis Facility.
