Andy Reed '19 pitched once during the week and it was a gem, as he went 7.0 innings in relief and allowed just two earned runs with a pair of strikeouts against the Stevens Institute of Technology on April 5. The Fairport, New York, native earned the victory in the Empire 8 Conference contest against the Ducks, guiding the Soaring Eagles to a 7-5 triumph. He was especially strong after Elmira took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, as he allowed just one hit over the last two frames, which included a strikeout to end the bout.
In the extended run of relief, Reed showed flashes of his dominance out of the pen from a season ago. The outing dropped his season ERA to 4.76, which is the second-lowest mark on the team. The 5-foot-11-inch left-hander ranks second on the team in innings pitched (28.1) and third in strikeouts (13). This outing just affirms that Reed is still one of the best relievers in the E8, as his ERA in his three relief appearances stands at a stellar 2.13, which leads EC.
Reed and the Soaring Eagles will return to the field on Friday, April 13, for a non-conference tilt against Hilbert College. The opening pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. at historic Dunn Field.
