Henry Cuffee '19 began his final collegiate season with a tremendous shooting display during Saturday's home- and season-opener against SUNY Cortland. The 6-foot-5-inch forward, known best for his work in the post and mid-range, found his stroke from beyond the arc en route to a team-high 24 points against the always-tough Red Dragons.
The Bel Air, Maryland, native finished the contest with a 64.3 field-goal percentage on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor. However, he was even better from 3-point range, making 6-of-7 attempts for an 85.7 conversion rate. His six treys mark a single-game career-best for Cuffee, who made all of his field goals from deep in the second half, although his minutes were limited due to foul trouble. Cuffee's high-scoring outing helped Elmira – the Empire 8 Conference's leading offense a year ago – rack up 92 points, the most by the Purple and Gold in a season-opening game since posting 95 against Chowan in the 2001-02 opener.
Cuffee and the EC men's basketball team remain home to welcome the Wildcats of the Pennsylvania College of Technology to Speidel Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 13, at 7:00 p.m.
