The performance by Sally Hogan '19 in the post was crucial for the Soaring Eagles in a 69-58 non-conference win over Pennsylvania College of Technology on Saturday at Speidel Gymnasium. The 6-foot-3-inch senior forward presented a mismatch the Penn College defense could not defend, as Hogan logged season highs in nearly every statistical category. She finished 8-of-14 from the field with 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks, guiding the Purple and Gold to their third consecutive win.
The West Rutland, Vermont, native entered off of the bench in the first quarter and quickly recorded made her presence known with six points in the final 2:05 of the period, including a pair of second-chance layups, as the Soaring Eagles took a lead they would never relinquish. Hogan's effort helped Elmira finish with advantages in second-chance points (20-to-5), points in the paint (48-36), and rebounds (47-to-34).
Through the first eight games of her senior year, Hogan has averaged 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, but has seen her scoring output increase in recent weeks. Over her last four appearances, she's posted an 8.3 points-per-game average, culminating in Saturday's standout performance.
Following the winter break, Hogan and the Elmira women's basketball team will return to action with the 2018-19 Empire 8 Conference opener on Friday, January 4, at the Stevens Institute of Technology at 5:30 p.m.
