Meg Lahey '19 played a crucial role in the No. 5/5-ranked Soaring Eagles' 3-0 upset of No. 3/3 Norwich in the second national title rematch of the year on Sunday afternoon. She tied a game- and season-high by producing two points, as the fourth-year defender from Latham, New York, recorded one goal and one assist.
In the second period against the Cadets, hosts of the ninth annual East-West Hockey Classic in Northfield, Vermont, Lahey potted her first goal of the season to break a scoreless stalemate. The senior blueliner sniped a shot from the point through heavy traffic, beating the Norwich goaltender top shelf on the power play for the game-winning goal. Lahey earned her second point 2:21 later with a secondary assist on a goal from Ariella Haas '22. Lahey's efforts on the backend proved vital as well, as she helped the Purple and Gold hold Norwich 0-for-2 on the power play.
Through the first 12 games of the year, Lahey has accumulated 11 points (1g-10a) and ranks eighth in the country in points-per-game among defensemen (0.92). Among league leaders in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC), she is tied for fourth in assists and power-play points (6).
Lahey and the Soaring Eagles conclude play at the East-West Hockey Classic on Monday afternoon when they take on archrival and No. 2/2-ranked Plattsburgh State. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside Kreitzberg Arena.
