Henry Cuffee '19 averaged 11.7 points and 6.0 rebounds across a trio of contests against Empire 8 Conference Tournament qualifiers. However, the fourth-year forward saved his best performance of the season for Saturday's 81-80 upset over Nazareth College.
Against the Golden Flyers, who are competing for a top seed in the E8 Tournament, Cuffee poured in a season-high-tying 24 points and collected 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. He recorded 14 of his points in the second half to guide Elmira back from a double-digit hole, tying the contest at 80-all with a layup inside the final 20 seconds and scoring the game-winning point on a free throw with 2.5 seconds left. The win, which came on Class of 2019 Recognition Day, was the first for the EC men's basketball team against Nazareth since February of 2005.
A Bel Air, Maryland, native, Cuffee enters the final game of his collegiate career as Elmira's third-leading scorer with a 10.3 points-per-game average. He's reached double-figures on 14 occasions as a senior, highlighted by a pair of 24-point games against Naz and SUNY Cortland.
Cuffee and the Elmira men's basketball team will conclude the 2018-19 campaign on Tuesday, February 19, when they visit Utica College for a 7:30 p.m. Empire 8 matchup.
