Jeremy Best '19, a fourth-year setter from Wexford, Pennsylvania, guided the Soaring Eagles to a pair of wins, including a straight-set sweep of Bard in their first United Volleyball Conference (UVC) win on Friday, February 22. While doing so, he became just the second player in program history to surpass 3,000 career assists.
In four matches last week, Best amassed 114 assists, six kills, five blocks and two service aces. His week began with 26 helpers in a four-set contest against Keuka. In two sets played versus Bard, he compiled 18 more assists, with his 10th marking the 3,000th of his career. Best wrapped up the weekend with 25 assists at No. 8 SUNY New Paltz and an impressive stat line – 45 assists, five digs, four kills, three solo blocks and two aces – as Elmira topped Augustana (Ill.) in five sets during a Saturday morning tri-match.
With 614 assists in 18 matches so far in 2019, Best ranks second in the UVC. He joined former All-American Michael Vellutato '14 as the only two setters in Elmira history to log more than 3,000 assists.
Best and the EC men's volleyball team return to Speidel Gymnasium for their 2019 home opener against UVC rival St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, February 27, at 7:00 p.m.
