Eliza Beaudin '22, an All-UCHC Honorable Mention and All-Rookie Team honoree, played a phenomenal game in the second annual United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. The first-year forward netted three goals as part of a four-point performance in EC's 8-3 victory over William Smith, and as a result, she was crowned the tournament's MVP.
In Saturday's 3-2 semifinal win over Manhattanville, Beaudin handed out an assist on the game-winning goal for her first of five points in the conference tournament. The following afternoon against the Herons, she scored all three of EC's power-play goals, breaking a 2-2 tie with her second tally at 8:33 of the second period and depositing the game-winner at the 16:36 mark. Beaudin added an assist on Elmira's fifth goal, scored by Maddy Jerolman '19, as the Soaring Eagles used a six-goal run that bridged the second and third periods to capture the Pat Thompson Trophy as UCHC champs.
Following the first hat trick of her debut season, Beaudin increased her point total to 34 (17g-17a), the most points by an Elmira freshman since Tori Charron '14 (37) in 2010-11. The Lewiston, Maine, native ranks fourth in the nation in points per game by a freshman (1.26) and is one shy of first place with six game-winning goals in 2018-19.
As announced on Monday morning, Beaudin and the Elmira women will host Adrian in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Tournament on Saturday, March 9, at the Murray Athletic Center. Full details, including start time and ticket information, will be released when available.
