Sam Chadbourne's performance at the plate was instrumental in jumpstarting the EC softball team last week, as the Soaring Eagles went 5-1 and are riding a five-game win streak. The senior first baseman raked with a .316 batting average and a .789 slugging percentage, with five of her team-high-tying six hits going for extra bases. Chadbourne also drove in a team-high eight RBIs and scored five runs of her own.
The Braintree, Massachusetts, native had a hit in four of Elmira's six games last week and scored a run in five of them. She collected three hits in a doubleheader against Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday, March 26, including a 2-for-4 performance in a 10-2 victory over the Panthers in the nightcap. The following day, Chadbourne helped the Soaring Eagles sweep Morrisville State by recording a career-high five RBIs in a 10-2 win. Four of the runs she came on an inside-the-park grand slam in the bottom of the sixth. In a two-game sweep of Clarks Summit on Thursday, March 28, Chadbourne collected two hits and two RBIs and slugged a solo home run.
Following a big week at the dish, the fourth-year infielder boosted her season batting average to .250, while moving into first place on the team in extra-base hits (5) and RBIs (8). Among Empire 8 Conference leaders, Chadbourne ranks third with a .625 slugging percentage.
Chadbourne and the Soaring Eagles are scheduled to host SUNY Poly in a non-league doubleheader at Eldridge Park on Wednesday, April 3. First pitch for the opening game is set for 3:00 p.m.
