In six games on the diamond last week, Samantha Jenkins '20 slashed a team-leading .500/.500/.611 with nine hits in 18 at-bats. The third-year utility player produced at least one hit in four games and logged a team-best three multi-hit games.
Against SUNY Poly in the first of the week, Jenkins played arguably the best game of her EC career. She batted a perfect 4-for-4 with one run, one RBI and one stolen base while guiding the Soaring Eagles to an 8-7 walk-off victory over the Wildcats. Not only were her four hits a career-high, but Jenkins also stole home plate in the bottom of the eighth for the game-winning run.
The Niagara Falls, Ontario, native finished the doubleheader against SUNY Poly with a triple in the nightcap. In Elmira's Empire 8 Conference opener against Houghton, Jenkins batted 2-for-4 with one run. She also had a two-hit outing in the first half of a twin bill against Alfred.
Following an incredible week at the plate, Jenkins has raised her season batting average to a whopping .440 (11-for-25). She ranks fourth on the team in hits (11) and second with four stolen bases in five tries.
Jenkins and the Elmira softball team will continue Empire 8 action with another home doubleheader on Saturday, April 13, when the Purple and Gold host Stevens Institute of Technology. First pitch for the series opener is set for 1:00 p.m. at Eldridge Park.
