In the Soaring Eagles' lone contest on Saturday against Alfred University, Mikayla Carfello '22 set the pace for the Purple and Gold in a 22-2 Empire 8 Conference victory over the Saxons. The first-year attacker from Pequannock Township, New Jersey, logged a game- and career-high seven points on six goals and one assist. Carfello completed the hat trick with her third goal at the 9:44 mark in the first half, before opening the scoring in the second half with her fourth tally. Her fifth and sixth goals came back-to-back and extended EC's lead to 18-2.
Following her career performance, Carfello moved into first place on the team in points (21) and goals (20). She is the first Elmira rookie to score 20 goals in a season since teammate Rachael Goetz '20 did so as a freshman in 2017.
Carfello and the Soaring Eagles return to the field on Thursday, April 18, when they travel north to Canton, New York, for a non-conference bout against SUNY Canton. The matchup with the Roos is set for 4:00 p.m.
