On the offensive end of Campus Field, James Mayer '20 had a banner day by netting a career-high five goals in Elmira's 10-6 Empire 8 Conference victory over Houghton College on April 24.
Trailing 3-2 in the second quarter, Mayer found the back of the net for back-to-back goals 2:12 apart to put the Soaring Eagles ahead for the remainder of the contest. His second of the consecutive goals completed his second hat trick of the season. The Baldwin, New York, native then opened the third quarter by winning the faceoff at the X and slicing through the heart of the Houghton defense to double-up the Highlanders, 6-3.
With five tallies in the 2019 finale, Mayer finished his junior campaign second on the team in points (17) and goals (15), fourth in ground balls (43), and he secured 64 faceoff wins – all career-high figures.
