Lutho Mlunguza '23 played a crucial role in extending Elmira's unbeaten streak to five consecutive games. In a pair of contests, he amassed a team-leading five points, while posting his first collegiate multi-goal game and dishing out the first assist of his EC career.
On the road on Wednesday evening, Mlunguza found the back of the net twice, guiding the Soaring Eagles to a 3-2 overtime victory over SUNY Delhi. After putting Elmira ahead 2-1 in the second half, he buried the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 100th minute. During Saturday's home match against Empire 8 Conference foe Houghton, the Cape Town, South Africa, native helped EC overcome a two-goal deficit, as he assisted on the game-tying goal in the 81st minute.
Through the first 10 games of the season, Mlunguza is tied for seventh in the E8 in goals (4) and ranks ninth in the league in points per game (1.00).
The EC men's soccer team will continue Empire 8 play on Saturday, October 5, when the Soaring Eagles visit the Pioneers of Utica for a 3:00 p.m. tilt.
