Matthew Cuce '20 was awarded MVP plaudits after a stellar showing in two games at the W.B. Mason Winter Classic, hosted by Plattsburgh State over the weekend. The fourth-year forward from Fort Myers, Florida, racked up six points on four goals and two assists. He led the charge on Friday night, as the Soaring Eagles came back from a two-goal deficit to beat Endicott in overtime in the opening round, 6-5. Cuce netted back-to-back goals in the third period to even the score, before forcing a turnover and receiving the secondary assist on the game-winner. The following evening, Cuce added netted consecutive goals in the second period to propel EC to a 4-1 victory, as the Soaring Eagles beat the host Cardinals to capture the tournament title.
On the national stage, Cuce ranks among the top 15 in points per game (1.55) and goals per game (0.83). With tallies in both contests against Endicott and Plattsburgh, the senior standout extended his goal streak to five consecutive games.
Cuce and the EC men's ice hockey team will look to secure a sixth-straight win on Saturday, January 11, when they return north to face Oswego State in a non-conference tilt at 7:00 p.m.
