Vellutato had an astonishing week as he led Elmira to a 5-0 week in which the Soaring Eagles knocked off three opponents in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 15 Poll. The setter averaged 10.85 assists, 1.9 digs, 1.0 block and 0.55 digs per set. The junior started off the week tallying match-highs of 33 assists and six blocks, while adding seven digs against Penn State Behrend. In a 3-1 win against No. 15 Emmanuel Vellutato recorded 38 assists, seven digs and two blocks. Later that day he helped the Soaring Eagles upset No. 13 MIT by assisting a match-high 56 kills to go with seven digs and five blocks.
In a 3-1 victory on Sunday against Southern Vermont the Topanga, CA native finished with a double-double tallying 48 assists, 11 digs and four blocks. In Elmira’s 3-2 defeat of No. 11 Medaille Vellutato once again finished with a match-high in assists (42), while adding six digs and three blocks. On the week he finished with 217 assists, 38 digs and 20 blocks. The junior was also named to the Golden Flyer All-Tournament Team for his performance this weekend.
The Men's Volleyball team returns to action Saturday when it takes part in a United Volleyball Crossover Weekend. Elmira takes on SUNY New Paltz at 11:00 a.m. and Stevens Institute of Technology at 5:00 p.m.
