Gelenitis was pivotal in leading Elmira to an undefeated, 5-0 week, which included defeating three teams in the AVCA Top 15 Poll. The junior averaged 3.55 kills, 1.5 digs and 0.5 blocks per set for Elmira and had at least 11 kills in every match. He started the week off with 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks in a sweep of Penn State Behrend on Wednesday. Gelenitis followed that up with 13 kills, six digs and three blocks in a 3-1 victory against No. 15 Emmanuel.
The Brick, NJ native had his best performance of the week in a five set win over No. 13 MIT where he recorded 22 kills, seven digs and a block. On Sunday against Southern Vermont the junior floored 13 kills. In EC’s last match of the week he finished with 12 kills, eight digs and three blocks as the Soaring Eagles completed a perfect week by defeating No. 11 Medaille in five sets. On the week Gelenitis registered 71 kills, 30 digs and 10 blocks.
The Men's Volleyball team returns to action Saturday when it takes part in a United Volleyball Crossover Weekend. Elmira takes on SUNY New Paltz at 11:00 a.m. and Stevens Institute of Technology at 5:00 p.m.
