Women’s Lacrosse Edged by SUNY Oswego, 11-10

Elmira, NY -- The Soaring Eagles Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Lakers of SUNY Oswego in a non-conference game.  Despite holding a two goal lead in the final 6 minutes of the game the Lakers managed to sneak out a tight win over Elmira, 11-10.

After conceding a goal in the first 40 seconds of play the Soaring Eagles responded with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead.  Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- Arnold) kicked off the offensive attack as she netted Elmira's first goal at the 28:49 mark on a pass from Jordan Donegan '12 (Syracuse, NY -- Corcoran).  Mitchell would return the favor 45 seconds later as she assisted on a goal by Donegan.  Just under five minutes later Mitchell and Donegan registered their third points of the game as Mitchell scored on another assist from Donegan.

Sarah Ware '11 (Georgetown, MA -- Marquette) netted Elmira's fourth straight, claiming a 3-goal advantage.  Megan McNulty '14 of SUNY Oswego ended the Elmira run with a goal at the 7:58 mark but EC's Samantah Risi '13 (Coopersburg, PA -- Southern Lehigh) would find the back of the net just 52 seconds later to reclaim the 3-goal lead.  Elmira was held scoreless from this point on as Oswego brought the game to within one at 5-4 with two unanswered goals.

Elmira would jump to an 8-6 lead in the second half as Emily Zimmerman '11 (Marcellus, NY -- Marcellus) scored two goals while Donegan scored the other.  Oswego would cut the lead to 1 on a free position opportunity but back-to-back EC goals from Mitchell and Donegan pushed the Elmira lead to 3 goals.

Holding a 10-7 lead Elmira looked to seal the game with a pair of goal scoring opportunities but Laker goalie Ashlee Engel '13 made several key saves to keep Oswego in the game.  EC would be held scoreless for the remaining 16:01 as the Lakers put up four straight goals with Bri Borrow '11 scoring the game winner with just 1:02 remaining.

Mitchel and Donegan finished the game with 5 points each, both with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Zimmerman pitched in with 3 points on 2 goals and an assist. EC goalie Mary-Kate Gellerman '13 (Frederick, MD -- Urbana) had a solid game between the pipes as she made 13 saves and scooped up 3 ground balls.

Elmira will be back in action tomorrow, April 29th as they host the Blue Devils of Fredonia State in a non-conference season finale.  Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Campus Field in Elmira, NY.
