Women’s Lacrosse Suffers Tough Loss to Bengals

Corning, NY – The Elmira College Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 19-5 loss to a tough Buffalo State squad Monday afternoon at Corning High School. The win improves the Bengals to 1-0 on the new season, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 1-1.  
 
The Bengals got off to a quick start scoring the first five goals of the game. EC finally got on the board at the 14:42 mark when Jordan Donegan '12 (Syracuse, NY -- Corcoran) scored a goal off the feed from Emma Schepers '14 (Elmvale, ONT -- Team Ontario). After another quick goal by Buffalo State, EC's Meghan Pass '12 (Owego, NY -- Owego Free Academy) registered a goal with Marki Michaels '13 (Manchester, NY -- Midlakes) getting the assist to make it 6-2 with 14 minutes left in the half. Elmira looked to score a couple more times in the half, but a dominating Bengals offense could not be slowed down as the halftime score read 11-4.  
 
In the second half the Bengals continued to dominate, but relied much more on its defense to stop a tough Soaring Eagle offense. Buffalo State stuck to its plan and put on tremendous defensive pressure allowing EC to score just one more time in the game, resulting in the final, 19-5. Leading the Purple and Gold were Pass and Donegan who tallied two goals each. Schepers also contributed to the offense with one goal and one assist, while Michaels pitched in with one assist.Karen Shaddock led Buffalo State with eight goals and one assist, while Kendyl Clarkson netted four goals and dished out nine assists.
 
LeAnna Presler '14 (Livonia, NY -- Livonia) and Caileen Waldron '15 (Egypt, NJ -- New Egypt) combined to make seven saves between the pipes for EC in the loss, while Colleen George and Adi DiDuro combined to make five saves for the Bengals in the win.
 
EC Women's Lacrosse will be back in action Sunday, March 11th when they travel to Potsdam, NY to face SUNY Canton in nonconference action at 3:00 p.m.
