Ithaca Bombs Women’s Lacrosse 18-1

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Lacrosse team fell to visiting Ithaca College, 18-1, Saturday afternoon at Campus Field. The win improves the Bombers to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 7-5 overall and 1-4 in conference competition.

Ithaca dominated play early and often rattling off seven straight goals in the first nine minutes of action. EC got on the board at the 9:32 mark of the first half when Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- Arnold) fed a pass to Meghan Pass '12 (Owego, NY -- Owego Free Academy) in front of net. Pass made a nice move and her shot trickled past Ithaca goalie Jess Worthman. However, this proved to be EC's only score of the day as the Bombers scored three more times before break to take a 10-1 lead into intermission.

Ithaca continued to pressure Elmira, often double teaming the ball and turning defense into a quick counterattack on the offensive end. The Bombers scored eight more goals in the second half on the way to an 18-1 rout. Samantha Risi '14 (Coopersburg, PA -- Southern Lehigh) led Elmira with five ground balls, while Rebecca Matturro '14 (Smithtown, NY -- Smithtown), Marissa Drake '12 (Schenectady, NY -- Schenectady), Erin Duffy '14 (Nashua, NH -- Nashua) and Sarah Watts '15 (Burlington, CT -- Lewis S. Mills) forced two turnovers apiece.

Mary Kate Gellerman '13 (Frederick, MD -- Urbana) and LeAnna Presler '14 (Livonia, NY -- Livonia) split time in net for Elmira. Gellerman stopped four shots in the first half for EC, while Presler made five saves in the second frame for the Soaring Eagles.

The EC Women's Lacrosse team returns to action tomorrow when it hosts conference foe Utica College at 1:00 p.m. at Campus Field.
