Women’s Lacrosse Struggles Offensively in Loss at Fisher

Pittsford, NY – The Elmira College Women's Lacrosse team struggled to score as it fell to host St. John Fisher College, 15-3, Friday evening at Growney Stadium. The win improves the Cardinals to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 4-3 and 0-1.

Fisher dominated the first half as it scored 10 unanswered goals with three coming from Taylor Hughes and two from Erin Ward to take a 10-0 lead into intermission. The Cardinals held a 21-0 shots on goal edge in the opening half.

EC was much more competitive in the final 30 minutes as they were nearly even in goals with Fisher trailing just 5-3. With 21:17 remaining in the half Ashton Hogan '15 recorded her eighth goal of the year. Just 1:12 later Moorea Spoljaric '16 found the back of the net for the 19th time this season. Hogan would add a second score seven minutes later as the Cardinals cruised to the 15-3 victory.

LeAnna Presler '14 made 16 saves in net for Elmira, while Caroline Trpcevski, Molly Naylon and Nicole Hart combined to make two saves for Fisher. The Cardinals held advantages in shots on goal (31-5), ground balls (27-21), draw controls (14-6) and free-position shots (9-2).

The Women's Lacrosse team returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Fredonia State at Elmira Free Academy beginning at 4:00 p.m.
