Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team (4-5, 1-2 E8) fell to Stevens Institute of Technology (5-5, 3-0 E8), 12-5, in the Purple and Gold's senior game.
Ashton Hogan '15 led the Soaring Eagles with four goals, two groundballs and one caused turnover while
LeAnna Presler '14 made nine saves in net for the Purple and Gold in the loss.
The Ducks found the back of the net first 7:15 seconds into the game, but EC would respond back 1:46 later when
Bridget Keefe '14 had a free position attempt and quickly passed the ball to Hogan who scored her first goal of the day to even the score up at 1-1. Stevens scored the next two goals to take a 3-1 lead. Hogan then cut into the Ducks' lead, once again, as she collected the ball and sprinted through the Stevens' defenders to register an unassisted goal to trail the Ducks, 2-3. Stevens scored three more goals to finish the first half leading the Purple and Gold, 6-2.
The Ducks kicked off the second half with a goal 5:01 into the half to up Stevens' lead to 7-2. Hogan scored her third goal of the game just 1:36 seconds later after
Marissa Mongillo '15 passed her the ball and she was able to slip it past the Ducks' netminder. After back-to-back goals from Caitlyn Hughes '15, Stevens held a 9-3 lead over the Soaring Eagles.
Kelsey Quail '17 posted a goal off a free position attempt with 14:02 left in the second half. After Stevens scored two more goals, Hogan answered with her fourth goal of the game.
Natalie Robinson '15 beat her defender and found Hogan cutting towards the net. Hogan jumped, caught, and shot, all in one motion for EC's fifth goal of the game. The Ducks added one more goal before the end of the game with 6:55 remaining.
The Soaring Eagles will be back in action when Elmira travels to Fredonia State on April 1
st, the game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
