Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Fredonia State On the Road

Fredonia, NY -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team (4-6) fell to Fredonia State (7-2), 15-8, on the road today. Moorea Spoljaric '16 led the Soaring Eagles with two goals, an assist, and won two draw controls.

Fredonia started the game with two goals in the first eight minutes of play. Spolaric scored her first goal of the game off a free position attempt, 8:36 into the half. Unfortunately for the Purple and Gold, Spoljaric's goal would be EC's only goal in the first 16:24 of the half as the Blue Devils scored five straight to lead the Soaring Eagles, 7-1. The EC women scored two more goals before the end of the half with free position goal by Ashton Hogan '15 and an unassisted goal by Marissa Mongillo '15.

The Blue Devils scored the first five goals of the second half to lead the Purple and Gold, 12-3. Spoljaric scored an unassisted goal five minutes into the second half. Hogan won the next draw control and sprinted down the field and scored another goal just 27 seconds later to trail the Blue Devils, 5-12. Fredonia upped their lead to 13-5 after putting the ball in the back on the net with 9:48 remaining in the second half.  Sami Risi '14 scored a goal of her own off a free position attempt just 57 seconds later to trail the Blue Devils, 6-13. Frredonia responded back with 6:10 left in the second half to own a 14-6 lead. Rebecca Matturro '14 received a pass from Jessica Blinkinsop '14 to up EC's goal total to seven with 5:44 left in regulation time. With 3:12 remaining in the second half, Fredonia upped their score to 15-7, but EC would get the last goal of the gam,e just 22 seconds later, when Spoljaric tossed the ball to Blinkinsop who slipped the ball behind the Blue Devils' netminder.

The Purple and Gold will compete next when the EC women travel to Utica College on April 6th, the game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
