Women’s Lacrosse Comeback Falls Short At Nazareth

Rochester, NY -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team (5-9, 2-4 E8) fell to Nazareth College (6-7, 3-2 E8) 16-7 today. Moorea Spoljaric '16 led the Soaring Eagles with three goals while LeAnna Presler '14 stopped 14 shots in today's action.
 
Nazareth found the back of the net first just 37 seconds into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. The Golden Flyers scored three more goals before Ashton Hogan '15 scored Elmira's first goal of the game. Nazareth upped their lead to 5-1 before Spoljaric scored her first goal of the game with 11:48 left in the first half. The Golden Flyers responded with three straight goals to take an 8-2 lead with 9:25 left in the half. Spoljaric scored her second goal of the game with 6:00 left in the first half to trail the Golden Flyers, 8-3. Nazareth closed out the half with four goals to take a 12-3 lead.
 
The Golden Flyers kicked off the second half with a goal 1:45 into the half to take a 13-3 lead. Rebecca Matturro '14 received a pass from Hogan 58 seconds later to score EC's fourth goal of the game. Nazareth responded with a goal 5:48 into the half to take a 14-4 lead. Spoljaric scored her third goal of the game 11:18 left in regulation play to trail the Golden Flyers, 14-5. Nazareth scored two more goals before Marissa Mongillo '15 score back-to-back goals in the last 1:08 seconds of play with Hogan being credited with an assist on the first goal.
 
The Purple and Gold will be back in action when the EC women host Oswego State on April 24th, the game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
