ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team will play a pair of Empire 8 Conference bouts this week, beginning with a road 4:00 p.m. tilt against No. 23-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 18. The Soaring Eagles will then battle the Gators of The Sage Colleges on Saturday, April 21, at Campus Field.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Soaring Eagles scored 18 goals, the team's second-highest total of the year, to top New England College by an 18-10 final score on Saturday, April 14.
  • Rachel Grampp '18 led all players with a single-game career-high seven points and five goals.
  • Kyra McDonald '18 tallied five points on two goals and a career-best three assists.
  • Danielle Goddard '20 scored a career-high four goals.
  • In cage, freshman Kacie Pierce '21 played all 60 minutes and made 10 saves to earn her third win as a rookie.
  • Defender Kelcey Crawford '18 dished out her first assist of the year, in addition to tying a season high with seven ground balls.
 
SCOUTING STEVENS
  • The nationally-ranked Ducks are 9-3 overall this season and are a perfect 4-0 in the Empire 8.
  • Stevens' three losses came against No. 3 Trinity College (Conn.) (15-6), No. 14 Amherst College (13-9) and No. 23 Rowan University (23-11).
  • Most recently, the Ducks defeated Hartwick College by a 19-4 final score on Saturday, April 14.
  • Stevens boast a strong defensive unit, which ranks second in the conference in save percentage (.502) and third in goals-against average (8.50).
  • Senior Stephanie Schnelzer has started all 12 games in goal and has posted 94 saves and a .510 save percentage.
  • Schnelzer's 8.48 goals-against average ranks first in the E8 and 37th in the country.
  • Sophomore Kyra Bednarski leads the conference with 59 points this year (37g-22a).
 
SCOUTING SAGE
  • The Gators enter this week with a 2-8 overall record, with games against Southern Vermont College on Tuesday and SUNY Poly on Thursday left on the schedule before meeting Elmira on Saturday.
  • In league play, Sage is 1-5 in its first season in the E8, with its lone win being a 13-3 triumph over Alfred on Saturday, April 7.
  • The Gators rank second-to-last in the Empire 8 in goals scored (62) and have allowed the third-most goals (165).
  • Senior attacker Torri Sperl leads the team with 26 points (21g-5a).
  • Freshman goalkeeper Carly Plaisance has made an impact in her first collegiate season, as she paces the Gators in saves (42) and save percentage (43.8).
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Soaring Eagles will play their penultimate Empire 8 game of 2018 on Tuesday, April 24, when they battle Hartwick College at Campus Field at 4:00 p.m.
