Gilbert had a stellar performance in her only game of the week as the Soaring Eagles knocked-off Houghton College, 3-2, for their first Empire 8 Conference win of the season. The third-year standout scored all three Elmira goals for her second career hat trick, including the game-winning overtime goal, her second of the season, just 52 seconds into overtime.
EC trailed 1-0 at halftime, but Gilbert quickly erased that deficit, scoring her first goal just three minutes into the second half. She added to her total, and put the Purple and Gold in the lead, with 16:30 left in regulation, but Houghton answered to tie the game with under six minutes to play. The two teams would go to overtime tied 2-2, but thanks to Gilbert, overtime would last just 52 seconds as she outran the Highlander defense and fired a shot over the reach of the goaltender.
Gilbert and the field hockey team have just one game remaining in their 2014 campaign. EC travels to take on the number 15 nationally-ranked University of Rochester Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, October 29th at 6:00 p.m.
