Rochester, NY – Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- Arnold) recorded seven goals and helped lead the EC Women's Lacrosse team to battle a tough Nazareth College squad Saturday afternoon in Rochester. Although EC performed very well early it would not be enough as the Golden Flyers took the win 19-13. The win improves the Golden Flyers to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in Empire 8 action, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 7-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
In the first half the game was a fight with each team scoring multiple times. Nazareth scored first in the game and went on a 5-1 run for the first 10 minutes. EC scored a couple of different times after this run with
Mitchell leading the way. Later the Golden Flyers went on another run with 5:26 left in the half, but the Soaring Eagles would fight back late scoring four goals in the last two minutes of the first half being led by
Marissa Mongillo '15 (Shelton, CT -- Trumbull). At the half the score was 13-10 in favor of Nazareth.
In the second half the Soaring Eagles had opportunities to even up the game, but the Golden Flyers would not give in. Nazareth outscored EC 6-3 in the second half resulting in the 19-13 win.
Mitchell led Elmira recording seven goals, while
Mongillo tallied three scores and
Meghan Pass '12 (Owego, NY -- Owego Free Academy) pitched in with two scores. Also contributing to the offense were
Emma Schepers '13 (Elmvale, ONT -- Team Ontario) and
Marki Michaels '13 (Manchester, NY -- Midlakes) each with two points.
Mary Kate Gellerman '13 (Fredrick, MD -- Urbana) and
LeAnna Presler '14 (Livonia, NY -- Livonia) split time in net for EC.
Gellerman finished with two saves in 13 minutes of play, while
Presler made nine stops in 47 minutes of play.
The EC Women's Lacrosse team returns to action Thursday, April 19
th when it hosts the University of Scranton on Campus Field starting at 4:00 p.m.
