Hoboken, NJ – The Elmira College Women's Lacrosse team struggled offensively against Stevens Institute of Technology in route to an 18-6 loss Friday afternoon in Hoboken. The win improves the Ducks to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in Empire 8 action, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 6-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
In the first half the Ducks controlled the tempo taking an early lead and outscoring EC. The Purple and Gold got on the board at the 5:53 mark with
Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- Arnold) scoring an unassisted goal. The Soaring Eagles did not score again until the 22:00 and 21:14 minute mark when
Emma Schepers '13 (Elmvale, ONT -- Team Ontario) and
Jessica Blinkinsop '14 (Temecula, CA -- Great Oak) each scoring a goal. Although Elmira was able to get on the board, the Ducks continued its dominance scoring three more goals for a 15-3 halftime score.
In the second half EC stepped up its play and tried to match the intensity that the Ducks brought.
Meghan Pass '12 (Owego, NY -- Owego Free Academy) and
Mitchell led the Soaring Eagles in the second half, but they would only be able to score three more goals to cut into the large lead set by the Ducks. Stevens scored three more goals in route to its first Empire 8 victory of the season.
Mitchell led EC in points contributing two goals, two assists and three ground balls.
Pass also chipped in with two goals, while
Schepers and
Blinkinsop each recorded one goal.
Mary Kate Gellerman '13 (Fredrick, MD -- Urbana), LeAnna Presler '14 (Livonia, NY -- Livonia) and
Caileen Waldron '15 (Egypt, NY -- Egypt) split time in net for EC. In 22 minutes of play
Gellerman tallied seven saves while allowing 12 goals. In 17 minutes of play
Presler made one save and allowed no goals, while
Waldron allowed six goals in 21 minutes of play.
The EC Women's Lacrosse team returns to action tomorrow when it takes on conference foe Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY starting at 1:00 p.m.
