Katie Granato '19 showed off her special-teams skills with a pair of goals, as the third-ranked Elmira women's ice hockey team swept the Buffalo State Bengals in the weekend home-and-home series.
In the 3-1 road win over the Bengals in Buffalo on Friday, Granato knotted the game at one-all at the 16:43 mark of the first period on a shorthanded tally. The first-year forward intercepted the puck at Elmira's blue line and skated the length of the ice, depositing the puck with a back-hand shot over the stick-side of Bengals netminder Justine Silva.
On Saturday, the Naperville, IL, native capped off the scoring for the Soaring Eagles, as she tallied Elmira's fifth goal in the shutout win. The power-play goal extended her streak to three straight games with a score and four straight with at least one point.
On the season, Granato is third on the team with seven goals in addition to her three assists. She is sixth in the ECAC West in freshmen scoring with 0.56 points per game and tied for sixth with 10 points.
The No. 3 Soaring Eagles will continue ECAC West play with a home-and-home series against William Smith College this weekend, beginning with a 3:00 p.m. matchup against the Herons at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena on Saturday.
