Satchal Waters '16 helped the Elmira men's tennis team earn a 9-0 sweep over the visiting Keuka College Wolfpack on Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center Tennis Dome.
In first flight doubles, Waters and teammate Patrick Tracey '18 knocked off Keuka's top duo of Peter Smock and Phuoc Mai by a final of 8-2. For Waters – who entered the weekend as the program's all-time leader in double wins – Saturday marked the 30th such victory of his EC career.
Then at second singles, the Elmira native dropped only one game to Mai, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win. With the triumph in singles play, Waters secured his name among the top players in team history, moving into sole possession of first-place all-time in with 59 career wins. He surpassed the previous mark set five years ago by Gabe Cortes '11 (58).
Saturday's match marked the fourth time Waters sweep both singles and doubles play in his senior campaign. He now has 10 overall wins on the season.
The Elmira men's tennis team will begin play inside the Empire 8 next week, as the Purple and Gold take on Utica College at the MAC Tennis Dome at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2nd.Â
