Julianne Heggie '16 has kicked off her senior campaign with a bang, helping the EC softball team to a 4-2 start. She started all six games on the week and posted a tremendous .462/.680/1.154 slash line. She reached base safely in all six games and had hits in four, while scoring eight runs and driving in four more.
The Oxford, NY, native slugged a ball off of the outfield wall at Eldridge Park in the season opener against Hilbert on March 30th, coming away with a three-bagger after falling inches short of a homer. In the doubleheader at Houghton on April 1st, Heggie went 3-for-6 with, including a home run and a season-high three runs scored in Game 1 of the twin-bill. The following day at Alfred University, the 5-foot-6 outfielder went 2-for-3 at the plate in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Both of her hits went for extra bases, as she doubled and homered in the opening contest with the Saxons.
The fourth-year talent showed impeccable patience at the plate throughout the week, working out at least one walk in every contest. With a total of nine free passes, Heggie has already tied her previous single-season high and ranks three shy of the league lead, although EC has played less than half the number of games than the remainder of the conference. Additionally, her .680 on-base percentage has her sitting atop the E8 leaderboards.
The Soaring Eagles softball team is scheduled to return to Eldridge Park on Thursday, April 7th, to host Alfred State in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch for Game 1 is slated for 3:00 p.m.
