Maddie Evangelous '19 turned in a stellar performance for the No. 4/5 EC women's ice hockey team in its 6-0 ECAC West Semifinal victory over Buffalo State at the Murray Athletic Center on Sunday afternoon. She helped jumpstart the offense and earned a point on Elmira's second, third, and fourth goals. Her three points not only led all scorers, but they also equaled her previous season and career high.
The Hudson, Massachusetts, native earned assists on a second-period goal from Maddy Jerolman '19 and a power-play tally early in the third off the stick of Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '20, her 16th and 17th helpers of the season. Evangelous then netted a shorthanded goal at the 7:58 mark of the third period to extended the Soaring Eagle advantage to 4-0. After a takeaway in Buffalo State's defensive zone, Katie Granato '19 fired a pass to Evangelous in the slot, and the second-year forward beat the Bengals' goalie five-hole for the score.
Evangelous, who received ECAC West All-Rookie Team honors as a freshman, is having another standout season in 2016-17. The sophomore sits one point shy of the team lead with 26, a new single-season career high, as are her 15 assists.
Following the semifinal victory, Evangelous and the No. 4/5-ranked Soaring Eagles will trek north to Plattsburgh, New York, to face the top-ranked Cardinals of Plattsburgh State in the ECAC West Championship Game on Saturday, March 4th, at 3:00 p.m.
