Andy Reed '19 has excelled in his new role as a long reliever, and Sunday's Empire 8 finale against Utica was no different. The sophomore left-handed pitcher helped the Purple and Gold secure the third seed in the upcoming E8 Tournament by allowing just two hits in 4.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Fairport, New York, native stranded a runner on base in the sixth inning and left two in scoring position in the eighth by inducing an inning-ending double play. In the seventh and ninth innings, Reed retired the side in order, with five of the six outs coming via ground balls. His lone strikeout of the game came in the sixth, when Reed fanned Utica's Jake Ryan on three pitches to end the inning.

The victory over the Pioneers was Reed's fifth, tying the program's single-season record. He boasts a 4-1 record with a 1.80 ERA and a .195 batting average against out of the bullpen, making him Elmira's most efficient – and with 25.0 innings, the most used – relief pitcher this year.
