In three matches over the weekend, Ryan McDonough '19 posted an impressive stat line at the Elmira College Invitational with team highs in kills (53), kills per set (4.42), digs (34), digs per set (2.83), and aces (5), in addition to six total blocks and six assists. The fourth-year outside hitter averaged nearly 18 kills per match, hit no less than .275, and finished with two double-doubles.
In a tough four-set loss to United Volleyball Conference (UVC) foe Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the senior from Lindenhurst, New York, had 17 kills and 13 digs for his first double-double of the season. He followed that performance up with a 19-kill, 16-dig double-double to help the Soaring Eagles take down Rutgers-Newark in five sets in the first match of Saturday's doubleheader. In the late game, a three-set sweep of D'Youville, McDonough swung at a ferocious rate of .519, as he racked up 17 more kills on 27 attempts.
On the year, McDonough, who is riding a streak of eight consecutive matches with double-digit kills, leads the UVC in total kills (319) and is fifth in kills per set (3.22).
On Wednesday, March 20, McDonough and the EC men's volleyball team will take on rival Nazareth College in a UVC match inside Speidel Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
