Erik Griffin '16 helped the No. 10 Soaring Eagles men's volleyball team finish with a 2-1 record at the Stevenson University Tournament over the weekend. The Purple and Gold knocked off Medaille College in straight sets on Friday before toughing out a 3-2 victory over Thiel College on Saturday.
Against Medaille, the reigning All-American outside hitter recorded a match-high 12 kills, while posting a .350 attack percentage. Griffin also recorded three digs, two assists, and one service ace in the 3-0 win over the Mavericks.
The Victor, NY, native then registered a season-high 20 kills and did not commit an error on 26 total attacks, equaling a program-record .769 attack percentage. Griffin finished the five-set victory over Thiel with five digs, a season-high four block assists, and one ace. He also had eight kills, six digs, one assist, and one block in a loss to host Stevenson on Saturday.
Griffin is off to a tremendous start to his senior campaign. Through the first six matches of the season, he sits atop the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) with 3.58 kills per set and a team-best .326 attack percentage.
The Soaring Eagles return to action this weekend at the Golden Flyer Invitational, hosted by Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. EC opens the two-day tournament with a 4:00 p.m. match against Johnson and Wales University on Friday, February 5th. At 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Elmira has a rematch against Medaille.
