Mike Ellison '16 earned All-Tournament Team honors after leading the ninth-ranked Soaring Eagles to a 3-1 mark at the Golden Flyer Invitational, hosted by Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. He paced the offensive attack with an outstanding stat line, registering 66 kills, 4.12 kills per set and a .408 attack percentage. In addition, Ellison was second on the team with seven blocks and tied for second with 20 digs.
In the victory over Johnson & Wales University on Friday, the Victor, NY, native earned a team-high 20 kills and hit at a rate of .325. Ellison also served a season-high four aces to the Wildcats. Later that day in the loss to Medialle College, he once again led the Soaring Eagles in kills with 17.
In the straight-sets sweep of Hilbert College on Saturday, Ellison posted two kills on three total attacks, two block assists and one service ace in minimal playing time. The senior outside hitter concluded the weekend with a career performance in a five-set victory over D'Youville College. Ellison powered the EC offense with a career- and tournament-high 27 kills, while hitting .467. He also had eight digs, two aces and two blocks against the Spartans.
Ellison has a team-high 100 kills on the season and is second on the team with 2.86 kills per set. He also has 46 digs, 13 aces, and 12 blocks.
The No. 9 Elmira men's volleyball team will return to action this weekend when the Purple and Gold host a United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Tri-Match at Speidel Gymnasium on Saturday, February 13th. EC will take on Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 11:00 a.m. and New York University at 5:00 p.m.
