Rashaad Nurse '22, a rookie forward for the EC men's basketball team, has found a groove in recent weeks. After seeing limited time in his first six appearances of the year, he's amassed double-digit points in four of his last seven games and was included in the starting lineup in all three games last week. During that span, he averaged 11.7 points, team-high 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.
The Queens, New York, native made his first collegiate start and scored seven points on Tuesday in an 83-64 road victory over the Houghton Highlanders. Against Sage on Saturday afternoon, he poured in a career-best 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting (66.7 percent) to go along with five boards, two steals and one blocked shot. Nurse then played a season-high 21 minutes and logged 13 points with eight rebounds on Saturday, as the Soaring Eagles knocked off Stevens by a 71-67 final.
In the seven games since the start of the New Year, Nurse has recorded 8.7 points per game and team highs in rebounds (4.9) and blocks (1.3). Overall, he leads all Elmira freshmen with an average of 5.4 points in 13 outings.
The EC men's basketball team will hit the road on Tuesday, January 29, for an Empire 8 Conference bout with the Golden Flyers of Nazareth. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
