Curtis Harris '22, a dual-sport student-athlete who also suits up for the men's basketball team in the winter, had a late start to the tennis season due to his commitment on the hardwood. However, in recent weeks, the first-year netter from Odessa, New York, has proven to be a key member of the lineup for the Soaring Eagles. Over the weekend, Harris went 3-1 in matches against Pennsylvania College of Technology and SUNY Delhi, which included a perfect 2-0 showing at the No. 3 singles position.
In Saturday's home match with the Wildcats, Harris teamed up with Ravi Chauma '21 to capture his first-ever doubles victory, as the duo took down Blake Whitmire and Joseph Morrin at the No. 2 position, 8-5. Harris then swept Whitmire in singles action, dropping only two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win. On Sunday against Delhi, the freshman extended his singles win streak to three consecutive matches by defeating Marcos Andrino in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.
In his debut campaign, Harris boasts an overall record of 4-3, including a 3-1 showing as a singles player and a perfect 3-0 mark during the spring portion of the men's tennis season.
Harris and the EC men's tennis team will open Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday, March 30, when the Purple and Gold host The Sage Colleges at the Murray Athletic Center at 1:00 p.m.
